Attending a SciFi Convention. One that I have know folks for over 30 years! They are my 2nd family! one that I chose!
I only do a few, Mostly due to the cost. Yes I would LOVE to do a couple of the Bi ones one day. Like DragonCon & SDCC = San Diego Comic Con
@therealjrn You should attend a “Local” one if you have not been to one before. Just to sample go on Saturday. you will get the Flavor of the con. Each one has it own difference.
@mycya4me Oh, yes, that’s why I said it sounds fun! I went to one and got an autographed picture of the Irish actor Colm Meaney. We used to have some come thru but I haven’t seen any lately.
@therealjrn Well if you had the money of Bill Gates you could go to a SciFi con pretty much every weekend around the World/ Some may overlap (but they are well spaced apart in Distance!
@therealjrn Although I did go to one this past weekend… Well there is another one I wish I had the $$$ for! It is called MystiCon, in Roanoke, Va. I went to it the year before Covid shut everything down. Nice small (6-800) folks but they have a star that I would like to see in person, “Gigi Edgley, she played Chiana, s a street-smart, savvy, and mercurial character, Chiana is a Nebari, a grey-skinned race.” But the cost 7 having just done a SciFI con… it is Not viable option! But in April I will be at RavenCon, Since I will be volunteering a lot I will get in free.
@cfg83 We don’t talk about what’s up in the attic. Or out in the garage. Or on top of the sewing cabinet. Or in those sagging plastic bins in the next room. Or in the back of the closet that I haven’t emptied out since 1999.
Cleaning up this sea of boxes from the latest carload of stuff I brought back from my storage unit. I think I might be running short on places to put things, since I don’t have any obvious stowage locations.
The Fellowship of the Ring tackled last night, The Two Towers this afternoon, and The Return of the King tomorrow afternoon to celebrate the 25th anniversary in theatres (extended editions, of course). Oh, and some yoga and World of Warcraft thrown in there for good measure, too. And also not making a sound because new kitty I brought home three nights ago is hanging out in a borrowed dog kennel while I bond with current kitty, hoping they accept each other in the end!

Exercise, a trip to the credit union, attend a community litter pick up event, work on my website, practice my Python and database skills, grocery shopping, and paint my walk-in closet so that it’s ready to install the new closet system when I get back from San Diego
@phendrick subtracting.
An ally way that was absolutely disgusting. I was shocked by how many tires were dumped there. I was not shocked by the number of needles we all found.
@kittykat9180 Props for the good work! Pitiful and aggravating that such has to be done by a few people to atone for the many who are ignorant, asocial, or just plain indifferent to the common good. But such is the way of our species, I guess.
As to the tires, not real surprising, since dumbass legislators in most states think it’s a good idea to charge people for returning used tires themselves, hence many people just dump them to save a few bucks. Notice that you most likely didn’t find a plethora of used car batteries, since people are paid to return those (get a refund of their core charge). smh.
Hope all you volunteers got some recognition for your good work (or at least coffee and cookies).
@phendrick
Good use of the word asocial. Most people use the word antisocial, but they are using it incorrectly.
Volunteers get a free shirt and water.
Every state should have programs of recycling to encourage people to return those items rather than dispose of them in the community. For example, beverage bottles redemption.
Going to the casino for my bday tonight. Then tomorrow having pizza and ice cream cake with the family for my late fathers and my bdays. His bday is tomorrow it was always tradition for us to do something together for our bdays.
@Lynnerizer
It was a good night. I played on the same $100 for 6 hours and even took home $76.76 of it. I probably won about $350 overall but gave it back playing so for 6 hour of entertainment $25 isn’t to bad to me.
@Star2236
Not bad at all! Sounds like you gamble like me, I only bring what I’m willing to lose! Lol Six hours is a good time for $25 in all. Glad to hear you had a good birthday!
@Lynnerizer
Yeah last time I went I lost all $300 I brought so I was really happy this time, especially since I sat on the same slot machine for like 4 hours.
At first I was thinking how painful it must’ve been sitting for that long, then I remembered this documentary I watched about people gambling at casinos. It spoke about people wearing diapers so they didn’t have to get up from their slot machine or table.
I think you’ve reached a whole other level when you ever THINK about diapering down!
Lol
@Lynnerizer
I was talking to someone who stood out in the cold for 8 hours to see the pope and he was telling me how people put on diapers to do it to and the people down in nyc for the ball drop do it too. I could never do that. I’d rather loose my spot and go to a bathroom. I got up a couple times to get a drink from the far bc it was like 40 feet from me and after the 4 hours I had pee really bad so I moved to something else after that. It wasn’t to bad bc the chair had a back and getting up the couple times to get a drink helped.
@chienfou@Kyeh looked like SF had other places in mind they had rather been vacationing in.
@sillyheathen rock the hawk top
I don’t see any frost on your eyelashes.
Your guy accept that it’s more exciting than his football? (At least before the game is out of hand…)
@chienfou@Kyeh@phendrick same. I’m not allowed to get sick. So far it’s just two of them. Just started washing the mountain of laundry and have chicken soup start d on the stove. Need to try to stay awake or I won’t sleep tonight.
@Kyeh@sillyheathen
That’s what we’ve been seeing locally primarily this season. Have an occasional B but for the most part they’re all A. Haven’t seen a positive covid in a while. Did they get scripted for Tamiflu?
@chienfou@Kyeh I wash my hands religiously. I think it’s part sensory and part previous kitchen experience actually took the dogs and the well kids for a walk. Our first plan was mixed because even though it’s a gorgeous (pun intended as it’s in the gorge) day, the wind was whipping down the gorge and it was bitterly cold. So we wandered back toward the house and wound up hiking Hopkins demonstration forest which is just a few miles from the house. It was kind of perfect.
@chienfou@sillyheathen That’s right outside your house? So beautiful!
Edit - Oh, you said a few miles. Still wonderful to have that so close by! I do have mountain trails with trees within walking distance, but it’s not that green right now.
@Kyeh@sillyheathen
OMG… that’s not a minion … that’s a “mini me”!
Glad you’re (all) able to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. Another few days and you’ll be able to make that trip together as a family…
/giphy patience young grasshopper
@chienfou@Kyeh one of the benefits of where we are in the PNW. We’re not close enough to the mountain to get regular snow. There were patches of ice in spots. And yeah. I’ll have to look at the distance as the crow flies but it’s a five minute drive on country roads to Hopkins. It also backs on to the property where we had our small farm years ago, and I always tease Carys that she was born in a bathtub right by the creek that runs through it.
@chienfou@Kyeh she was born at home. Thankfully it was planned. We had an inflatable birthing tub and our midwife was only a few miles away. It was kind of amazing.
@Kyeh@sillyheathen
Though both our kids were born at home and we followed a lot of Leboyer methodology, we never did the water birth thing.
Kudos to you…
@chienfou@Kyeh my first birth was supposed to be a water birth but then I just felt like I needed to get up and move around. They redrew the tub but when active labor hit, I couldn’t fathom getting back in.
@chienfou@Kyeh that was for all three. I wasn’t comfortable enough to do a home birth with our first. We wound up using Alma birthing center in Portland for him. Then the second was at home. The third was supposed to be at home but we transitioned to the hospital because my water broke, which only happened during active labor for the other two, and there was meconium present in the fluid. I just wanted to be safe. She wound up being my longest labor. I had a really hard time focusing when people kept trying to come in to monitor etc. it kept throwing me off. I can’t complain regardless because hers was still only 9 hours.
Rear suspension.
